In this months edition, we welcome RCP Services Ltd who are based in Milton Common, just off Junction 7 of the M40 and just a few miles from Thame!
Who are we interviewing: Kimberley Pickett – General Manager
What services does your business provide & how many employees do you have?
RCP Service Centre is an independent vehicle repair garage. We were formed over 30 years ago by my father Robin Pickett. We aim to provide customers with first class service at competitive prices. RCP offers loan vehicles and a local collection and delivery service to try and minimise the disturbance to your day whilst your vehicle is in with us. We employ a total of 10 staff members and we are currently looking to expand with a further technician into our workshop and an additional customer service support person role.

Why should Thame Rewards Club Members bring their vehicles to you?
We offer customers a one stop shop for all their vehicle needs. We are not a fast fit garage - our aim is to do a thorough job at a fair and competitive rate. We are a well-established local independent business. All of our employees live within the local area and we try to support many local charity & clubs with advertising, sponsorship and/or raffle prizes where we can.
What are the best things about being independent?
We are all local people living and working within the area and we want to provide a good service to our customers. We don’t have any sales targets from a centralised head office like many national chains. Our long term aim is focused on repeat custom and getting to know customers and their vehicles so we can serve them better. We have scope to support local events, charities & Clubs without having to get the go ahead from a head office.
What are the hardest things/ biggest challenges about being independent?
One of the hardest things is competing against large nationwide brands who have bigger buying power than us. We struggle the most on Tyres as online companies are killing the trade. As an independent you just can’t touch their prices and that means people will go to online retailers instead which is killing the ‘high street’ to say.
Why did you sign up to Thame Rewards Club?
We wanted to support the local initiative and it seemed a great way to further advertise our services whilst offering discounts to local people.
What plans do you have for the business this year?
As mentioned above we are wanting to expand our team and then have more time to invest into increasing our Hybrid / Electric vehicle knowledge and skills
Do you have any vehicle-related tips/guidance for our members for winter:
We offer a free winter health check - just call us on 01844 278177 to book a slot. It will only take around 20 minutes and we will happily show you how to check your own levels and tyre pressures if you are unsure. We would always advise customers to keep the essentials within your vehicle in case the worst should happen! As a minimum this should include a Hi-vis jacket, blanket, torch, ice scrapper and de-icer. We always advise customers to service their vehicles annually. Checks you can do at home are:
Check your lights against a wall to ensure they are all working or borrow a neighbour to help you check each other’s lights.
Make sure all oil and water levels are correct and that the vehicle has antifreeze in the water /cooling system.
Check tyres are inflated to the correct pressure
Check tyre treads are well within the legal limit. Any tyres below 3mm in tread will be greatly reduced in efficient stopping distances especially in wet & icy weather conditions.
Are there any other particular local independent businesses you are particular fans of?
There are many businesses within Thame we use regularly. However, my top business within the Thame Rewards Club is Massage Matters. I participate in Triathlon outside of work and John at Massage Matters has really helped me stay injury free and fit for my events! He is always very amenable with times for me as I often finish late and he stays on so I can come from work without having to leave the office early.
Anything else you'd like to tell our members?
Please feel free to give us a try as we will always be happy to show you around our garage. We can help show you around your car to help you know how to complete your own checks such as locating your oil dipstick. No job is too big or small. We look forward to welcoming you into our business and if you’re lucky you may just come in on a day our Office manager Wendy has baked us a cake!
